Coach Cindy’s Reflections on a Fun Weekend
Posted by Falcons Fan on December 8, 2009
We started out Saturday morning with our annual Alumni Game. Eighteen players returned to RF to play and have some fun. It was great to see so many former players come back to stay connected with each other and with our basketball program. They can still play and razz each other with the best of them. Their families are growing every year and things are busy with the Holidays coming up, however, they still take the time to stay connected and continue to be an important part of our basketball program. It’s a tremendous experience for our current players to see the terrific people that have been part of Falcon Basketball. Many are working in the area they earned their degree in, some are home with kids, and a few have taken a completely different career route than they anticipated when they graduated. It’s awesome to check in with them and it’s become one of my favorite events of the season.
Many of our Alums and their families stayed around for our game against Stevens Point in the afternoon. What a fun game for everyone that came to cheer us on. We had a nice crowd to help us with our home court advantage, and our Basketball Buddy Ball Girls took good care of both teams. Stevens Point has a great team and is very well coached. Most people would consider our 72-61 win an upset, but we know we have a good team and we can play with anyone! When we make the hustle plays and get after it we’ll be tough to beat. It was truly a great game and tremendous effort by 2 good WIAC teams.
After the game our players’amazing parents provided one of the best buffets you could imagine. They brought tons of food and we got to eat, visit and spend a little time with our basketball family. We have great student-athletes in our program, and they have great families!
So…what a terrific all-around weekend! Now we head into another big week. Eau Claire comes to Karges on Wednesday. Hopefully we’ll have a bunch of teams here from the area for Youth and High School Night. Local teams get in free, and it should be another fun game to watch. This is a big one for us. Then we head to Oshkosh this weekend, that’s another big one for us. One thing about this league is that every 3 days we can honestly say it’s a big game for us. Right now we’re trying to get better everyday and control our controllables so we’re as ready as we can be for our next big game.
