Behind a career-night from Maranda Dorhn, the Falcon women’s basketball team beat UW-Platteville on the road in their final WIAC game of the season, 57-46.
Dohrn scored a career-high 23 points, shooting 11-15 from the field, and ripped down a career-high 22 rebounds on the night, tying the single-game record for rebounds. She also recorded one block and had only two personal fouls in the game.
After being tied with UWP with 15:46 left in the first half, the Falcons never gave up the lead again. The team’s largest lead came with 13:07 remaining in the second half, when they led by 19 points after a Taylor House free throw.
Stacia Nemitz led the Pioneers with 18 points. Claire Poad shot 4-6 from the field and 3-4 from the three-point line, scoring 11 for UWP. Poad also brought down a team-high six rebounds.
Adding to the front for the Falcons, Jenna Hanson and Kelli Hilt each scored nine points. Brittany Gregorich chipped in seven points and 11 rebounds. Katie Theisen and Alise Holst ended with three and two steals on the evening, respectively.
As a team, the Falcons shot 23-60 (.383) from the field, 1-9 (.111) from beyond the arc and 10-17 (.588) from the free throw line. The team recorded seven steals, and totaled 51 rebounds, almost doubling UWP’s efforts with 28 total boards.
The game was the final WIAC game of the season for the Falcons, and they finished with a 10-6 conference record (18-6 overall), tying for third in the conference behind UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point.
UWRF will travel to UW-Stout on Feb. 23, as the No. 5 seed, in the first round of the WIAC Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
