Dohrn Scores Career High 18 Points to Help Falcons to 64-48 Win Over UWW

Maranda Dohrn scored a career-high 18 points to help the Falcon women’s basketball team to a 64-48 win over UW-Whitewater on Saturday at the Karges Center.
The win over UWW lifted the Falcons into second place in the WIAC standings. UWRF is just a half game behind first place UW-Stevens Point with three games to play.
Dohrn finished 7-9 from the floor and 4-4 from the line to lead UWRF. Brittany Gregorich added 14 points to aid the Falcon cause. The 14 points ties her career high. Taylor House led the Falcons with nine rebounds.
The score was tied just once in the second half and UWW led just once. With 14:58 to play UWW held a 35-33 lead. But the Falcons went on an 8-0 run to take a 41-35 lead with 11:53 to go. House hit a layup to give the Falcons the advantage. The Falcon lead hit double figures with 7:36 to go when Brittany Gregorich hit a three pointer to give the Falcons a 48-37 lead. The Falcons kept the pressure on and had their biggest lead, 19 points (64-45), with 37 seconds to play.
The Falcons held a 26-22 lead at the half. UWW led for the first five minutes of the half. Tiffany Gregorich hit a layup wih 15:32 to go to give UWRF its first lead, 8-7. UWW took a 14-12 lead with 8:47 to go when Kelly Beese hit 1-2 free throws. But the Falcons outscored UWW, 10-2, over the next three minutes to take a six-point, 22-16 lead.
The Falcons played tenacious defense the entire game and limited UWW to just 19-55 (.345) shooting from the field. UWW put on full court pressure for most the game and forced 17 Falcon turnovers. But UWRF forced 16 UWW turnovers with eight coming in each half. The Falcons dominated the boards with a 44-31 advantage. UWRF pulled down 14 offensive rebounds led by House with four.
UWW was led by Nicole Bundy who scored 15 points. Cortney Kumerow scored 10 points and led the Warhawks with seven rebounds.
The victory puts the Falcons at 17-4 overall and 9-4 in the WIAC. UWRF will next play at Stevens Point on Feb. 13 with action starting at 3 p.m. First place in the WIAC will be on the line.
