Kram Karges night activities.

Tuesday night was “Kram Karges”  night with the men and women winning over Northwestern.

You need to check out these two videos of the activities.

“Cotton Eyed Joe” is also a popular folk song that can be seen and danced at country western dance venues and  at Kram Karges night and most other home games.

Voeltz’s 23 lead Falcons in Rout of Eagles, 71-52Dec. 15 , 2009Jake Voeltz scored a career-high 23 to lead the Falcons to a 71-52 win at the Karges Center over Northwestern. For RF, it was their first win at home this season.Voeltz had a huge first half that put the Falcons in control early. At the half RF lead 37-31.

Voeltz had 12 points and 9 rebounds in first half alone. Brady Hannigan and Aaron Anderson had nine and eight points respectively in the opening half.

Four minutes into the second half, Northwestern cut the lead to three. RF then went on a 13-1 run to pull ahead for good.

Anderson got the run started when he knocked down a three following a Hannigan miss from the line. RF never looked back.

The Falcons extended their lead to as many as 22 late in the contest.

Voeltz lead all scores with 23 points and was the games leading rebounder with 14. He was 9-13 from the field and 5-6 from the line.

Anderson and Hannigan were the other Falcons in double figures.

This is River Falls second win in a row. There record now stands at 4-6. They will travel to Duluth, Minn., to battle with St. Scholastica on Sunday. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m.

Falcons, Holst Battle in Win Over Northwestern 49-37

After leading at halftime with a score of just 12-9, the Falcons battle back to beat Northwestern, 49-37. Alise Holst scored 17 second-half points to help advance the Falcons to an unbeaten 9-0 overall record.

At halftime, the Falcons led the Eagles 12-9, and there were a combined team total of 20 turnovers. Alise Holst had no points, shotting 0-4 from the field and 0-1 from behind the arc. She came out in the second half and made a three-pointer, two lay-ups and free throw in two minutes. Later, she had a five-point play, sinking a three-pointer and two foul shots given after the play. She ended the game with 17 points, all in the second half, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. She shot 6-15 from the field, 2-6 from the three-point line and 3-3 from the charity stripe.

Aiding Holst in the win over the Eagles, Tiffany Gregorich added 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Maranda Dohrn pulled down 10 boards, and Kelli Hilt added four steals.

The game was tied at 20 with 8:01 to play, but after a lay-up by Gregorich, two free throws by Katie Theisen, Holst’s five-point play and two free throws by Tess Lardie, the Falcons were ahead by nine. After an Eagle timeout and a Lardie foul, the Falcons sealed the deal behind four points from Hilt, two from Gregorich and two from Lardie.

Hilt recorded five points, four assists and four steals in the game, and Lardie finished the night with four points and four rebounds. Brittany Gregorich chipped in four points and seven boards, shooting a cold 1-12 from the field. Lauren Pellowski and Thiesen each added two points.

Leading the front for the Eagles were Katie DeWitt and Kaelee Kendrick who each finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. DeWitt also had the team high three assists. Ariel Liesch chipped in seven points and six rebounds.

As a team, UWRF shot a dismal 4-42 (.095) from the field in the first half, but managed to shoot 13-29 (.333) in the second for a combined shooting total of 17-71 (.239) on the night. They shot 5-19 (.263) from behind the arc and 10-14 (.714) from the free throw line. The Falcons finished the game with 15 turnovers, after forcing 29 turnovers out of the Eagles. UWRF also recorded 17 steals, as well.

The team is now 9-0 overall, adding to the best start any women’s basketball team has ever seen in UWRF history. Their next games are part of the Surf City Classic at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. On Dec. 28, the team takes on SUNY-Purchase at 8 p.m. (PT), and on Dec. 29, the Falcons will face a tough Washington & Jefferson team at 6 p.m. (PT).

Player of the Week (Dec 7-Dec 13) -Forward Alise Holst

Forward Alise Holst (So., Plainview, Minn. Plainview-Elgin-Millville HS) helped the Falcons to two more WIAC wins last week. Holst,5-8, has helped the Falcons to an 8-0 start which is the best ever in school history. Holst had a season-high 10 rebounds in the team’s 57-56 win at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. In the two games she was 7-18 (.388) from the field for 14 points. She had 16 rebounds, five assists, one blocked shot and four steals in 45 minutes of playing time. Holst is averaging 5.3 points and 4.8 rebounds a game for the Falcons this year. She has 11 assists, four blocks and leads the team with 17 steals.
