Falcons Get Big Win Over SUNY-Purchase

The Falcon women’s basketball team put together a big first half en route to a 74-21 win over SUNY-Purchase on Monday night at the Surf City Classic in Irvine, Calif.
The Falcons, ranked No. 20 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, led, 43-14, at halftime. They went on a 13-2 run to take an early lead, 17-2 with 14:03 to play. The team’s biggest lead was 31 points, 43-12, with 23 second to play. In the first half Taylor House led the Falcons with nine points. She also had four rebounds. Maranda Dohrn finished the first 20 minutes with six points and six rebounds. The Falcon defense played well holding SUNY-P to just 6-21 shooting (.286) from the field. The Falcons had a dominating 33-13 advantage in rebounds after the first 20 minutes.
The Falcons kept the pressure on in the second half. The team’s biggest lead was 55 points, 74-19, with 2:43 to go when Melissa Carmody hit a jumper.
Every Falcon played at least nine minutes in the game and every player scored at least one point. Brittany Gregorich led the offense with 11 points. House finished with nine points and she led the team with three blocks. Dohrn was the top rebounder – she finished with seven, including four on the offensive end. Jenna Hanson, who scored six points, led UWRF with four assists. Kelli Hilt, who scored six points, led UWRF with five steals.
The Falcons finished the game with 22 steals, 12 blocked shots and 22 assists. The Falcons double up SUNY-P in rebounds and finished with a 62-31 advantage. The Falcons finished with 26 offensive rebounds. UWRF shot 30-70 (.429) from the field, but just 1-15 (.067) from three-point range. The Falcons were 13-20 (.650) from the line.
SUNY-P was led by Jasmine Davis who scored six points and she grabbed five rebounds. Purchase finished 8-52 (.154) from the field, including 2-10 (.200) from behind the arc. They were 3-10 (.300) from the line.
The Falcons, now 10-0 overall, will next play Washington & Jefferson at 6 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday. Washington & Jefferson enters the game with a 7-1 record.
